For the first time in a month, we stayed home this weekend. Saturday we both got our hair cut and mine was re-highlighted. I talked to Trish (our stylist) about doing my hair for the wedding. Which works out since she and her boyfriend Aaron are both invited. She might be in Hawaii that week for the 1-year anniversary of her grandpa’s passing. We’ll see how that works out.

After out hair was beautifully styled and we had some fabulous Hawaiian food at Brudda’s in Gardena, we went to Performance Bicycle in Torrance to see their selection. Bill has been in the market for a new bicycle for a little while with the intention of riding to work. (It’s only about 3 miles one-way) Plus we had 10% off coupon. He test-drove a couple of bikes and ended up buying one. Our plan is to get one for me in the near future so we can ride together… and hopefully loose some weight. We both agree that we’re more inclined to ride a bike than to jog. I hate jogging.

Sunday was dedicated to cleaning up our backyard. Two weeks ago Bill pruned our jacaranda tree and we ran out of daylight before we could finish cutting the branches into smaller pieces. In Spring, we prune it back almost to the main trunk to prevent it from getting too big. It’s a beautiful tree that blooms with bright purple flowers in May. We prune it in March to prevent it from blossoming. The flowers are pretty, but they make a terrible mess. The tree already makes a mess in the Fall and Winter dropping its tiny fern-like leaves. I’m about ready to chop the whole thing down…

Bill also went on a pruning frenzy cutting up a couple of dead poinsettia trees (the wild variety),  a brugmansia tree and a “volunteer tree.” I call it a volunteer tree because I don’t know what it is and I didn’t plant it. It “volunteered” to grow there. We actually have a couple of them… one growing right up the middle of a rose bush.

We got a lot of work done, but we both ran out of energy and had to stop. Today, my back and legs are very sore. Man… I’m really out of shape…
