Well, it’s been an interesting weather week down here… Michael and Sara drove down on Sunday to spend a few days at Disneyland. They had sprinkles on Monday, sunshine on Tuesday and pouring rain on Wednesday. Sara said that riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in the rain, three times in a row, makes the rain feel like hail pelting your face. They still had a good time though and Michael will be posting photos in his blog soon. (I’ll add a link when I get it) Wednesday was a crazy day for weather in southern California with many freeway closures due to snow and ice. Snow levels were at 1500 feet! One community in the Antelope Valley was completely cut off and commuters were being told to crash at a hotel for the night. Highway 5 through the Grapevine was shut down and was still closed as of Thursday morning. Michael and Sara drove home yesterday and had to take 101 north instead of 5. It took longer, but at least it’s a bit more scenic.  We’re just not prepared for weather like this… it’s southern California!!!

Louie was working in Las Vegas on Wednesday and is still stuck there. Parts of Las Vegas were covered with at least six inches of snow. The airport was shut down because they have no deicing equipment.
These are from a few random news stories:

Louie sent these photos:

I bet they don’t even have snow plows in Vegas…

My co-worker has a house up in Lake Arrowhead. Thankfully he doesn’t commute there every day anymore (three hours one-way!), but he says that when the sun us out and there’s snow on the ground, it’s really beautiful. You can see some webcams from his area here. He often uses this link to judge what the road conditions will be since a couple of these cameras are just a few minutes from his house.

Before the bad weather hit, we were blessed with some truly beautiful sunsets.

Tonight I’m headed up to the Bay Area for Mom’s birthday… it’s a milestone birthday this year… she’s turning 29, again. Chris and Tawn are in the area for a few days and I’m hoping we’ll get to see them before they head out to Kansas City.

The Christmas gift Bill and I ordered for ourselves should arrive today so I can bring it with me… and I’ll have pictures next week.

Beautiful sunset pictures.  I’ll give you a call this morning; not sure exactly when you’re heading back.
