Just a quick post requesting some prayers for friends of ours. I’ve known Brandi since she was a little kid through Girl Scouts. Her mom was a Girl Scout Leader and friends with my mom and we all attended a lot of events together. My memory may be off, but I think I babysat Brandi and her little sister Lindi a couple of times. While I haven’t seen Brandi or her family in years, I was thrilled to hear when both sisters got married a couple of years ago and that they were pregnant at the same time.
Brandi and her husband Chris welcomed their first child Scarlett into the world in October of this year, after a smooth pregnancy and delivery. At her two month well baby visit, baby Scarlett was doing wonderfully. Her parents asked their pediatrician to inspect a small bruise on Scarlett’s forehead that just refused to heal. Within an hour, Scarlett was taken by ambulance to Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford for a round of tests. Within the week, she had an MRI where a brain tumor about the size of a chicken egg was discovered. After a biopsy just days before Christmas, she was diagnosed with congenital glioblastoma multiforme. An extremely rare and aggressive brain tumor. The odds of a baby being born with this is 1 in 6 million. She is scheduled for surgery in the next week or so and will go through chemo afterward in the hopes of a positive prognosis. According to Brandi, a doctor told her that most babies are lost within weeks of the diagnosis.
If you would like to read about what Brandi and Chris are going through, you’re welcome to follow their blog. They seem to be posting every day since their daughter’s diagnosis. It is often heartbreaking to read, but I admire them for the strength they seem to be able to find every day.
Please add them to your prayers tonight. Thank you.
