Hike 7: The Living Room Trail

Hike 7
1.6 miles
The Living Room Trail

I met up with a group of local moms for a Hike it Baby hike in Salt Lake City near the University of Utah. The trail is called The Living Room because it ends at a place where rocks are broken into large slabs that are propped up like furniture and it offers a panoramic view of the Salt Lake Valley. It was cloudy and not very picturesque, but we still had fun. I can imagine this hillside will be a lot prettier once spring really sets in and the trees have some green on them.

Dineo and Bailey are HIB regulars, but the rest of the group was all new to me. We had babies as old as four years old and as young as two weeks!

Once we got going and the trail headed up the hill, it got muddier and muddier thanks to a recent rain storm. At one point, we all stopped and discussed whether to continue. Most of us were fine to continue going up, but all of us were worried about how difficult it was going to be coming back down. Hiking in the mud is a different kind of challenge when you’re wearing a baby!

We opted to turn around and explore sections of the Bonneville Shoreline trail that skirted the hillside. We stopped for a snack break and to let some babies nurse and discussed when to try this trail again.

We continued to the Red Butte Botanical Garden and then headed to our cars for the day.
